Die EGIR-Gruppe
EGIR steht für “European Group for the Study of Insulin Resistance”. Es handelt sich um eine Gruppe von Wissenschaftlern mit unterschiedlichem Forschungshintergrund, aus der Epidemiologie, der Endokrinologie, der Grundlagenforschung oder dem öffentlichen Gesundheitswesen. Das verbindende Element in der Gruppe ist das Interesse für das Thema „Insulinresistenz“.
Im Jahr 1993 fand das erste formelle EGIR-Treffen in der Nähe von Paris statt. Seit damals trifft sich die Gruppe jährlich in wechselnden europäischen Städten, um neue wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse und Daten zur Insulinresistenz auszutauschen sowie neue Projekte zu planen. 2008 traf sich die Forschergruppe in Frankfurt.
2001 startete die von der EGIR initiierte und vo der Europäischen Union (EU 5th Framework, EU contract QLG1-CT-2001-01252) unterstützte Multizenterstudie “Relationship between Insulin Sensitivity and Cardiovascular Disease (RISC)” in dem über eine Zeitraum von 3 Jahren gesunde Personen im Later zoiwschen 30 und 60 Jahren (ohne Diabetes oder Bluthochdruck) untesucht wurden. Das Projekt startete am 1.2.2012 und endete im Dezember 2007. 2010 erfolgte eine Nachuntersuchung der an der Studie beteiligten Probanden.
